a. Note:   eturned. POW 7-1-63 at Gettysburg, PA. Exchanged. POW 5-20-64 at Spotsylvania Court House, VA. Imprisoned at <u>Point Lookout Prison</u>, MD. Transferred 7-6-64 to <u>Elmira Prison</u>, NY. Died 4-21-65 of chronic diarrhea while a POW at <u>Elmira Prison</u>, NY. He is interred at <u>Woodlawn National Cemetery </u> <b>Private Eli Day</b> enlisted on Feb 26, 1862, a month later than his elder brothe Julius, in another unit , Company A ( the Iredell Blues) 4th Regiment N.C. State Troops. He deserted on the following October 10, but returned to duty on February 20, 1863 . Eli was wounded and captured at Gettysburg and was confined at David' Island , New York Harbor., until he was exchanged on Aug, 28, 1863. He went home on Furlough but rejoined the company by the ned of the year. Eli was captured a second time at Spotsylvania Court House , May 19-20, 1864. A brief Imprisonment at Point Lookout Maryland , followed , but on July 6 he was transfered to the prison at Elmira New York . He survived almost nine months at Elmira before Dying of Chronic diarrhea on April21, 1865 <u> </u>
