Notes
a. Continued:   From Michael Roger of Arkansas descendant of Edley Rogers Descendants of Joseph Jefferson Rogers Lee/Scott Co. VA & TN Joseph Rogers was more than likely a resident of what is now Scott and Lee counties Virginia. He was a partner with Elisha Rogers in a salt mine in Lee county. His heirs sued in 1842 for their part of the salt works, with the claimants being some of the heirs of William Roberts, husband of Catherine Rogers, daughter of Doswell Rogers of the same counties. Doswell was a long rider, and contemporary of Elisha Wallen. Eleanor Edmundson wrote a book about Doswell Rogers in the 1970's. After the book, a journal by William Hurd Rogers was found that indicated Doswell had more children. I have received a scanned copy of this document, and it is very unclear, as someone has typewritten abstracts of the contents. From this information, it looks like Doswell had a son named Joseph, and that Catherine Rogers was the sister to Joseph Jefferson, however, nothing has been proved. Susan married James Walling in 1818. This is pertinent as the Rogers children claimed Joseph Rogers as their Cherokee ancestor on the Henderson Roll of 1835 living inside of Tennessee. Henry and Edley Rogers both lived in parts of Georgia and Tennessee that were part of the Cherokee nation during the 1820-1830's. I also believe that possibly their wives, sisters, are also part Cherokee. None of the Rogers claims were recognized by the federal government. Based on the journal, it appears that most of the Rogers families in the Hamilton County Area were related to some degree as cousins, one of them related to the Hixson's who were witnesses to the marriage of Henry's son, and Ephraim Hixson who married Henry and Mariah.
