Waldrup was a valiant and loyal soldier of the Confederacy in the war between the States, having enlisted as a private in Company C, Eleventh Mississippi infantry, in April, 1862, and having served in this command until the close of the great internecine conflict. He participated in the battles of Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, and Chattanooga and in the line of engagements fought from Tennessee southward to Atlanta, where Gen. John B. Hood took command. From Atlanta his regiment accompanied Hood's forces back to Franklin and Nashville, Tenn., and he remained with this command until the final surrender, when he received his parole. "
