As a young woman, she entertained troops as a singer with a band, lying about her age (saying she was 21 when in fact she was 18) in order to sing. She was active with the Pius IX Council 4396 Knights of Columbus, where she catered most events. She was a member of the Pennetts and the Women's Auxiliary of the North Pennsmen's Barber Shop Chorus.
