Dear Gary, It was so good to talk to you last evening. I haven't heard from Jamie, but she stays pretty busy with work and the children. I am forwarding the picture I promised. Here is my version of the Indian story that my Grandma told me: Grandma said a man in the community went out on a hunting trip, the man's last name was Haggard. He was alone, and he didn't return until Springtime bringing with him a little Indian baby girl. She said this baby was her Grandma, Parthenie. She said the man was married and he and his wife raised the baby. The story went that for whatever reason, the man spent the winter with a Cherokee Indian tribe, she didn't know if the man got sick or was hurt or if there was a reason for him to be with the Indians, or if the baby was his, or someone else. I never questioned whether Gma Parthenie was Indian, she certainly looked it and I think Gma Jimmie favored her. Anyway, I am anxious to hear the other family's story. Let me know if the stories are anything alike. This is all for now. I hope you and your family are well. Give your mom a hug and kiss for me. Take care and God bless you. Love, Marsha Note: Marsha Lee Dennis' "Grandma" was Jemmie Belle Harris. I was thinking of you just yesterday, as mom sent me a photo of Irene and Grandma (Iretta) that I had never seen. I will forward it to you with this message. My Indian story... The story that I always remember is that the "man of the house" (which was a grandfather, but how many great's- or generations back, I never new), left home in the fall of the year to do some hunting. I think he was planning to be gone a few weeks. Then he reappeared in the Spring with an Indian (or half Indian, and I can't remember if this was ever discussed, I mean the baby being his child, but I think it was somehow inferred that he was gone long enough for it to be his...) baby, which was Partheny. This is so exciting! Let me know what you hear! I still want to come to see you guys soon. Didn't work out for the fall, but maybe the first quarter of 2004? Talk to you soon, Jamie Note: Jamie Imes is Marsha Lee Dennis' daughter. (GV) In the 1900 Census, she's listed as "Missonara", born in KY father born in Texas, mother born in TN (GV).
