Notes
a. Note:   unty, PA, Tuesday, September 9, 1930) BODY FOUND IN BUSHES, SHOTGUN WOUND IS FATAL William Walford, 60, Found Dead On Farm West Of Spartansburg With Shotgun By Side - Missing Since Yesterday Afternoon. While authorities at Spartansburg this afternoon declined to pronounce the man's death a case of suicide, William Walford, 60, well known farmer, residing west of Spartansburg, is believed to have ended his life in a clump of bushes on his farm some time late yesterday, the man's lifeless body being found about 11 o'clock this morning. Walford disappeared from his home early Monday afternoon. When he failed to return last evening, a search was instituted but darkness forced a halt until this morning when the hunt was resumed. The man's body was found in a small clump of bushes. A double-barreled shot gun with one chamber exploded lay beside the body. Authorities at Spartansburg investigated into the man's death this afternoon but declined to pronounce the case one of suicide, belief being expressed that the gun might have been accidentally discharged while the man was walking through the bushes. The deceased had been in ill health for some time [he had cancer]. Mr. Walford had lived near Spartansburg for many years and was well and favorably known throughout that vicinity. He is survived by his widow, two sons, George and William, and two daughters, Mrs. John Rose of Union City, and Mrs. Harold Rose of near Waterford. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
