Note: The wrong death date we had of 17 Jul 1844 for Betsy Bean came from Phyllis Skeat's research. I believe her source was the Bean genealogy held by Mary Jean Bean, a great granddaughter of Betsy Bean. (Coincidentally married to a Bean, hence her married name. (JVL 21 Apr 2007) From Laurelee Walkey via email to JVL on 17 Mar 2007 for WALF: I also checked the Church of England books for Hatley and Compton on the slim off-chance of a burial for Betsey BEAN LEAVITT in 1844, but found nothing. Perhaps she attended a different church or lived elsewhere at the time of her death. Unfortunately, these records are not indexed online, so it means going through each file until an entry is found. However, the Minister of the church in these early years did write out a summary and index at the back of each notebook to cross reference the entries. 16 Apr 2007, JVL: Death date we had was 17 Jul 1844, but burial record says she was buried on the 26th of February, 1846: -----Original Message----- From: Laury Walkey [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, April 15, 2007 6:13 PM To: aleavitt Subject: [Fwd: [Fwd: FW: Baird Family]] Laury Walkey wrote: Anne, Thanks to this info I have just found Betsey's burial record! Note: HI13237 Note: (Research):I have searched through the Drouin Collection database at Ancestry.com in the hopes of finding further information on Betsy BEAN's death and second marriage and a baptism for her son, Simon. Below is a summary of that search. Ancestry.com has records for the following churches in the general geographical area in which we might expect to find these records: Stanstead (Adventist Church): 1856-1916 Stanstead (Baptist Church): 1834-1880 NOT FOUND Stanstead (Congregation Church): 1838-1907 NOT FOUND Stanstead (Couvent des Ursulines): 1892-1926 Stanstead (Methodist Church): 1831-1926 NOT FOUND Stanstead (Sacr-Coeur-de-Jsus): 1848-1940 Stanstead (United Church): 1927-1942 Stanstead Plain and Beebe Plain Church of England: 1857-1942 Rock Island (Congregation Church): 1880-1942 Rock Island (Notre-Dame-la-Merci): 1916-1940 Beebe (Adventist Church): 1878-1927 Beebe (Baptist Church): 1878-1934 Beebe (Methodist Church): 1880-1926 Beebe (Ste-Thrse-de-l Enfant-de-Jsus): 1925-1940 Beebe (United Church): 1927-1942 Hatley (Adventist Church): 1899-1921 Hatley (Baptist Church): 1842-1942 NOT FOUND Hatley (Church of England): 1818-1942 NOT FOUND Hatley (Congregation Church): 1862 & 1900 only Hatley (Methodist Church): 1841-1926 (1844 is missing) Hatley (Presbyterian Church): 1887, 1895, 1896 only Hatley (United Church): 1927-1941 Hatley East: 1909, 1910, 1915 only Hatley North (Church of England): 1906-1917 Hatley North (Universalist Church): 1896-1942 Compton (Baptist Church): 1867-1895 Compton (Church of England): 1840-1942 NOT FOUND Compton (Methodist Church): 1840-1925 (1844 is missing) Compton (St-Thomas-d Aquin): 1855-1940 Compton (United Church): 1926-1942 Now there are still possibilities in the churches where the records this time period are not listed or if the events took place in another location. Any suggestions on other churches to search? On a related note, I am attaching 2 images of the other entries I mentioned in my first message (LEAVITT ADAMS marriage.jpg and LEAVITT FISH marriage.jpg). Please let me know if they turn out. It's quite exciting to see so much progress in such a short period of time -- the pieces are certainly starting to fall into place. I had a conversation with Richard Baird last evening and he is visiting the said burial site tomorrow. I found a Creek Church in West Bolton near Stanstead but it was built in the 1870s.The museum I am working with has been unable to find another Creek Church. I had a conversation with the lady who cares for the archives in the Colby-Curtis museum in Stanstead who lold me you did not have information regarding another Creek Church. I will call again with more information regarding Pastor Zebina Young who appears to have been a travelling pastor for the FreeWill Baptist Church in the 1840s in the Stanstead-Hatley area. > > I have been busy on preparations for the exhibition and some family affairs but try to take time for Betsey...will keep in touch when I hear from Richard again. >> Later > > One thing that makes it more frustrating is the fact that there where two Betsy Beans who were cousins: Betsy Bean b Feb. 15, 1808 and married Hiram Abbott on June 6, 1828...she was 20 years old.
