Notes
a. Note:   Note from JVL for WALF: Descendants of Noah Matthew Cushing were obtained from RootsWeb's WorldConnect project files. Best data was from Warren Cushing ([email protected]). Some data from a J Blake, but much of his data was missing important information that could be found in the Warren Cushing file, which had impressive documentation. Note: All that is written about Noah in the 1905 Cushing Genealogy is: "It was supposed that Noah's daughters went to Maine; one married a Baptist Minister." - an assistant at the Rensselaer County Historical Society in Troy, New York said that a desk once belonging to Noah Cushing is now at a Baptist Church in Troy (didn't say which church though). The birthdates of several of the children are unknown, but the children are listed in this order in the Cushing genealogy (eleven children): Charles, Dennis, Elizabeth, Hannah, Jason, Melinda, Abigail, Noah, Matthew, Levi and Alvin. The birth dates of children Abigail and Noah are in 'Vital Records of Putney Vermont' published by the Genealogical Society of Vermont in 1992. That book lists possibly two additional children of Noah and Abigail born in Putney which were not in the Cushing genealogy: 'Moley, d/o Noah and Abigail, Oct. 5, 1777' (possibly Melinda?) and 'Silence, d/o Noah and Abigail, Oct 6. 1781'. This list is probably not the correct birth order - Noah and Abigail probably didn't have six children before Noah was 23 years old in 1777 (the birth year of the first child, Abigail, whose record has been found), though not impossible of course. Listed in 1790 VT census as residing in Putney, with 4 sons and 5 daughters all under the age of 16, and in the 1800 census as residing in Rockingham. 1810 census index lists two Noah Cushings, one in Burke and one in Lyndon - probably father and son (these are Heads of Households census and do not give the names of others in the house). Some family records have son Alvin as 'born' in Lyndon in 1800, but it seems more likely he was born in Rockingham (possibly Putney), but came to Troy, New York from Lyndon, Vermont. Sources: 1.
