Notes
a. Note:   Note: Maiden name also spelled LOCKLIN The 1905 genealogy of the Cushing family gives her maiden name as SEACKLING which is probably not correct- a transcription error most likely (have been unable to find anyone else by the name 'Seackling' anytime, anywhere). The 'Lockling Manuscript' at the Vermont Historical Society in Montpelier VT says Abigail LOCKLING married Noah Cushing. Abigail LOCKLING was born 1 May 1757 at Templeton, Worcester MA and her family moved to Windham Co. VT about 1772. While a marriage record of Noah Cushing and Abigail Lockling hasn't been found (apparently), they had sons named Dennis and Levi - names that don't appear in this Cushing family at all until this time. Abigail had brothers named Dennis and Levi - her father was named Dennis also. The most compelling piece of evidence that Noah Cushing married Abigail Lockling (and not Seackling) is the fact that Noah and Abigail's son Levi (who m. Betsy Ross) named a daughter Emily Houghton Cushing; their son Jason Dunkling Cushing named a daughter Abigail Lockling Cushing. Abigail Lockling's mother's maiden name was HOUGHTON. I do not know when or where Abigail or Noah died. Bridport, Addison VT vital records list the death of an Abigail Cushing on 10 Oct 1823, but it is not possible to know if that would be Abigail (Lockling) Cushing - they had a daughter named Abigail and Noah's mother, whose death date I haven't found, was also named Abigail (and she would have been about 92 years old in 1823).
