Text:   My Nana gave me her old copies of several of the Rev. Charles N. Sinnett's family genealogies from Harpswell, Maine before she died years ago. She was our family historian on my Dad's side and she passed the torch to me to keep it alive. I hope I have done okay with it all Nana. Thank You. This is the 9 page unpublished genealogy that Sinnett did on the LEAVITT family of Harpswell that Nana gave to me in the 1981. It is in Terrible shape and hard to read and her copy is a photo copy itself, but here goes as best I can make of it. 1st Generation -Page 1 Daniel LEAVITT who according to the statements of descendant, "who came from some old Mass town" located at Great Sebascodegan Island now called Great Island Harpswell, Maine in 1753. "He owne a goodly lot of land not far from what is now called Cundy's Harbor, but the deeds were lost and its exact location is unknown. He was of the same hardy patriotic stock as the other settlers on Great Island. Many of these people like the Purington,s Smalls, Snows etc. brought family records with them and were always busily writing up every new happening. Our LEAVITT's caught many a big codfish or pots full of lobsters while they were thus busy. So we have not many records to hand over to a genealogist. But we feel sure that St. Peter will give every Leavitt a cheerful nod and say "know all about your ancestors - pass on to the good places with them." ****************************** The Children as arranged by the descendants: 2nd Generation - Caleb LEAVITT was a Private in the Rev. Army and was killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill. 2nd Generation - Nathaniel LEAVITT was a Private in Rev. War and was killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill. The name of his wife was not given.
