Notes
a. Note:   [rscrbnr.ged] MOLLY'S PARENTS: George was born in Watertown 14 February 1733/34, and died in Otisfield 28 November 1807. He married Deborah 17 January 1757 in Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts (HARVARD VRs [op. cit.], 199). Deborah was born 18 November 1734 in Watertown, and died 1 June 1801 in Otisfield. After Deborah's death, George married Joanna Gibbs, who was born in 1770 in Harrison and died 29 August 1833 in Naples (OTISFIELD HISTORY [op. cit.], 521). George was the Otisfield Proprietors' Agent for many years, and is remembered as being "a real business man of the old school [who] distinguished himself in his day for his enterprise, honesty and suavity of manners. He was capable of transacting any business in legal form; acted among the early settlers as a physician and surgeon, and could write as plain as print." A violent encounter with an angry man named MacIntosh (who attacked George with an axe, because George opposed his associating with a daughter) resulted in the death of the attacker. George defended himself by striking MacIntosh with a heavy mallet. George was tried for murder and acquitted (Frederick Clifton Peirce, PEIRCE GENEALOGY, Being the Record of the Posterity of John Pers [Worcester, Massachusetts: The Author, 1880], 64). This book incorrectly states that Willoughby was married to George's daughter, Tarbell (b. 29 August 1759).
