Notes
a. Note:   Edward Moody was born in Stowe, VT on June 14, 1800 Edward stated that his father was Clement Moody (b.1774) and he came from Kennebec, Maine about 1794 and went out to the land where A. Slayton now lives. It was then all woods except a small chopping (clearing) where there a log house covered with bark and a basswood log floor. Had to go to Willison to a grist mill. First school I went to was kept by a black man. He was a fiddler named Farner?? Farmer? Edward's mother's maiden name was Scribner (so she was the Mehitable Scribner who married Clement Moody, Jr. in Waterborough, York Co., Maine). Clement Moody, Jr. his father died when he was only 13 years old. (so then, Clement died in 1813). Clement and Mehitable had 6 children. Mehitable took in washing and did spinning after Clement died to support her family. She too came from Kennebec, Maine. After Clement died she married 2nd to Mr. Stephen Jones of Waterbury, VT. Edward said that they were so poor that he had to go barefoot all summer because he had no shoes. Come wintertime his mother would sew rags to his feet to help them warm. Edward and his wife Christina died in the Poor House in VT. They had 4 children together, 2 boys and 2 girls (unnamed in this article).
