Notes
a. Note:   !DEATH:Alternate date of death 1817. !Leavitt family of Mass.; Archives; N.Y. Scrapbook 2, p. 64.; Gen. Soc. Archives Record. Jeremiah Leavitt Family of Exeter, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire and Hatley, Stanstead, Quebec, Canada. !Death date is from a record written by 5th child Jeremiah, who wrote that his father died in his 46th year. If this is true, and if he was born in 1760, then he had to have died in either 1806, or 1807. Deathplace Variable: Hatley,,Canada Marriageplace Variable: Chester,,NH Another death date 1806. Leavitt Family of Moss; Archives; New YorkScrapbook 2 page 64. !There was an 1817 marriage date which could not be correct; it was deleted Very little appears to be known of this man. Early temple records list 1817 as his death date. (If true, he had died before his family joined the Church, and before they left Quebec. Tha date would be important to verify.) Note with interest the information on the birth places of his children. The family were of Quebec, Canada when they joined the Church, according to all indications. However, the son Jeremiah who was born in 1796 listed his birth place in his endowment record in 1846 as Vermont. The 1932 temple sealing record, which was based on family tradition, stated that all of the children but the last one was of Hatley, Stansted, Quebec; the youngest was born in Walpole, Cheshire, New Hampshire. The 1960 temple sealing record lisited the first child (Weir) as born in Exeter, Rockingham, New Hampshire, and children 2,3,4 born at Hatley, Stanstid, Quebec; child #5 (Jeremieah born 1796) as born Exeter, Rockingham, NH; and children 6-9 born in Hatley, Stansted, Quebec; and child #10 born 1805 in Walpole, Cheshire, Canada. (Perhaps "Grandma" lived across the border in the USA and the children were born in less primitive conditions; or perhaps the records are incorrect.) All of the children of his son Jeremiah born 1796, children born 1818 to 1825 are listed as born in Hutley, Stansted, Quebec; children born 1827-1834 are listed as born in Compton, Quebec; and chidlren born 1839 -1841 born in Illinois. Explanations: Ancestral File listed 4 Aug 1846 as his death but that death date belongs to his son; not to this Jeremiah Leavitt; it also listed 1817 as a marriage date, when it is his death date (and his son's marriage date). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From a link provided by Laury Walkey on 16 Mar 2008: bItem Display Lower Canada Land Petitions/b bName: /b LEAVITT, Jeremiahb Year: /b 1795b Volume: /b 29b Page: /b 15398-15444b Microfilm: /b C-2504b Reference: /b RG 1 L3L

Note:   Early temple records list 1817 as his death date. We have it as 1817, from early church temple records, but there are two other references that give 1806 as his death date -- he would have been 45 years old i.e. "in his 46th year." The reason we keep 1817 as the date is that this was the date the family gave when they were still alive. JV Leavitt, 14 Nov 2011
