a. Note:   NAME Moses /TOWNSLEY OR TOUSLEY OR TOWSLEY/ Moses Towsley was born and raised in Suffield, Connecticut. About 1775 he left Suffield and went to Massachusetts to join the Continental Army. Records show that he served as a private in the 4th Connecticut Regiment from 15 March 1777 to 1 January 1780. In a deposition his son Daniel says that his father told him that he was at the battle of Bunkerhill and that he was a cook for some officers for two years. After the war Moses moved to Chesterfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts where he married Abigail Polley on 29 August 1783. He died in Chesterfield in 1803. Abigail and her children removed to Geauga County, Ohio. Although Moses died in Massachusetts there is a headstone for him beside his wife in Lot 15, Huntsburg Center Cemetery, Huntsburg Township, Geauga County, Ohio. The inscription reads: Moses Townsley died 6 October 1803 in Chesterfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts ('Inscriptions & Interments in Geauga County, Ohio through 1983' FHL book call #977.1336 V3m)
