Text:   Seasons greetings, You might be interested to know that David Stodder (b. Jun 23 1748 , d. Sept 30 1806) was the builder of the US Frigate Constellation launched in 1797. He and his wife Marcia Dodge had no children. The David Stodder b. Jan 12, 1779 that you have listed as his son was actually his nephew, son of his brother Hosea. Hosea was my husband's 3rd great grandfather. These Stodders were all descendants of John Stodder , who settled in Hingham Mass in 1638. Hosea's mother, Sarah Lane, was the daughter of Mary Leavitt. It's a small, small world. Regards Jeanne Stodder

Notes
a. Note:   Jeanne Stodder's notes: From Tom Casey ( my children's 2nd cousin) : Seth sailed the Leo to Mobile in -1822- with a cargo of workers from Hingham and a cargo of construction supplies to build a lighthouse. The lighthouse was located at the Eastern point of Mobile Bay, adjacent to Fort Morgan. There is a museum at Fort Morgan that references Seth and the building of the lighthouse. Seth's wife Susanna was from Kent Island, Kent County Md. In April 1794, Susannah's father executed a deed of indenture in favor of Elizabeth Hollock of Baltimore, a midwife, which subjected his daughter to a six year term of indenture as a spinster (one who operates a spinning wheel). There is a site on the web for Magnolia Cemetery. Note the second sentence below re: Yellow fever. Seth and his wife both died relatively young and only months apart. Did they die of Yellow Fever?? Welcome to Magnolia Cemetery, Mobiles third oldest municipal cemetery. The devastating yellow fever epidemics that filled Church Street Cemetery necessitated that a new city facility be opened immediately. Thus, in 1836, a small parcel of land, then lying outside the city limits, was acquired -- the first of a number of land acquisitions that now encompass Magnolia Cemeterys more than 100 acres. Although it was established at the height of the rural cemetery movement marked by such notable expansion cemeteries as Mt. Auburn in Boston, Magnolia Cemetery is not truly of that type. Neither is it a graveyard in the traditional sense; rather, it is a unique and vast urban cemetery which evolved because of circumstance and need. The oldest section of Magnolia Cemetery, the focus of this tour, is bounded by Ann, Virginia, Gayle, and Fry Streets. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The rich architectural and artistic assets include important Victorian funerary art reflecting the eclecticism of the period, especially of the Neoclassical revival. Expressions of the 19th century Christian piety abound in the beautiful funerary sculpture. Among the approximately 100,000 individuals interred here are local, state, and national historic figures; rich and poor from many ethnic groups; and veterans of American military conflicts.

Note:   (Research):WALF data had a second wife Hannah Sprague entered with a marriage date of 27 Jun 1824. Assurances come from Jeanne Anderson Stodder that Captain Seth Stodder only had one wife, Susannah davis. Nothing exists to tell us where the link to Hannah Sprague came from. She is being deleted at this time. JVL 7 Jan 2004
