Notes
a. Note:   cont ....Ezra Perry of Sandwich THE TRANSITION ...by Ruth Pope Much of the detailed information was taken down from the lips of KelloggPerry, [ born 1790 ], son of Absalom, son of Rowland. The relativereliability of his account is attested by the census records and the factthat he, at no time , introduced the names of another Perry family[descendents of John Perry of Watertown, Massachusetts] who had movedearly into the community and who also settled in Wilton. [New York ] The first member of the family who is known to have left the 'Oblong' wasIssac who removed with his wife and children to Hancock, Massachusetts;in 1769. Berkshire County Massachusetts had been organized in 1761 but heborder between Massachusetts and New York at this point was not settleduntil [ ] . In the meantime , a large settlement had developed inRensyelaerwyck, and Stephentown [ a few miles from Hancock] was formed in1784. Settlers from Rhode Island , Connecticut, and the Oblong came inlarge numbers and pushed farther into the wilderness both to the northand west. The 1790 census records of Dutchess County, N.Y., Hancock,Massachusetts and Stephentown, N.Y., reveal names of many families whomarried into the Perry family during the late 18 th and early 19 thCenturies, the most prominent being the Carrs.
