a. Note:   Genealogies from the History of Leicester, MA WASHBURN, JOSEPH b. in Bridgewater; m. Hannah Johnson, b. in Hingham; went to Middletown, Conn.; and came to Leicester before 1745. His children were born in Bridgewater; and the following named came with him, or previously, to Leicester: Seth, 1723. Elijah. Ebenezer, 1734. Abiah, m. Jacob Wicker, 1747. Sarah, m. Joseph Cerley; went to Whitingham, Vt.; d. 1817. Mary, m. Clough of Stafford, Conn. Mr. Washburn was a blacksmith; lived in a house, where there is now a cellar, on the right-hand side of the road leading to William Silvester's, about a quarter of a mile from the Great Road. He d. in 1759; his widow, in 1780, aged eighty-seven. Elijah m. Hannah Taylor, 1746; and went to Natick, and afterwards to New Hampshire. Ebenezer m. Dorothy, dau. of Jonathan Newhall, 1757; and removed to Hardwick. While he lived in Leicester, he was employed to teach school. He was father of Dr. Cyrus Washburn of Vernon, Vt. Import data from Wm Orin Taylor: On 26 Aug 1739, he and his wife Hannah were admitted to the Congregational Church of East Middletown, Connecticut. He was a Blacksmith. He sold his homestead in Bridgewater on 1 DEc. 1738. On 21 May 1740, Philip Judd sold 10 acres to Joseph Washburn of Middletown, and gave the 10 acres to his son Joseph Washburn of Middletown. On 1 Jan 1743 Josph Washburn of Middletown mortgaged land to John Warner. Joseph Washburn apparently moved to Leicester shortly after this. Removed from Leicester to Natick, Massachusetts about 1760, where he purchased a farm of the original indian porprietors, on which he continued to reside the rest of his life. The deed of this farm was dated 29 Nov. 1760 and was given to him by Sarah Rumnanah. No probate records were found in Worcester County for Joseph and Hannah Washburn.
