a. Note:   "Richmond Carr was a pioneer model. As his father had left the settled li fe of Rhode Island for the frontier hardships of Rensselaer Co NY so he fa red forth for newer and better country. Sometime about 1815 he left his wi fe and the three children then born to them and journeyed to Geneseo. He re he left the traveled road and struck off thru the forst blazing his tra in as he went for an easier return. At this period the wilderness of west ern New York which had from time unknown been the ancestral home of the gr eat Seneca Nation was being opened up to white settlement. On this vast t ract near what later became the village of Pavilion. Rhichmond Carr cho se his future home, cleared a little land, built a cabin and returned to S tephentown, NY for his family. That his choice of a site ws good is attes ted by the fact that not alone he and Rosanna lived out their lives the re but also his son and grandson."
