He served, with his father in the French and Indian Wars and with his sons in the Revolutionary War. He was said to have been rescued by George Washington after a battle at Crown Point, New York. He lived in Exeter during the greater part of his life. When he was quite advanced in years, he moved to Grantham, where he took up his residence with one of his sons, John.
