His first wife was Anne Sargent of Amesbury, Massachusetts with whom he had nine children. She was born there 23 December 1733, married David there 28 October 1751, and died sometime before June of 1772, when David married Abigail on 8 June 1772 at Hawke (now Danville), Rockingham County. Abigail was born about 1834 (Tracy A. Scott [compiler], "David Kimball Family Group Record," [undocumented], FAMILYSEARCH ANCESTRAL FILE, v4.19 (Intellectual Reserve, Inc., 1998-2002), "Electronic"; Leonard Allison Morrison and Stephen Paschall Sharples, THE HISTORY OF THE KIMBALL FAMILY Indiana AMERICA [revised edition], 1 [Kittery, Maine: The Kimball Family Association, 1978], 209). They are also the parents of Benjamin Kimball, husband of Joseph's sister, Susan. Joseph was called "White Headed Joe" because of his white hair. He moved to Gilead before 1820 and is the ancestor of the Bethel Scribners.
