a. Note:   "They (Elijah and his wife) lived in Canning. On September 15, 1800,Elijah Estabrooks was ordained pastor of the Baptist Church at Canning[then Waterborough]. This was the first Baptist Church on the Saint JohnRiver and he was its first pastor. A description of this ceremony iscontained in the Estabrooks-Palmer Records. An account of the life ofElijah Estabrooks Jr. is given in Bill's "History of the Baptist". Seealso Raymond's History Page 329. In 1808 he obtained land on LittleRiver. He died September 6, 1825, and is buried at Upper Gagetown. He was a influential church leader on the Jemseg River until his death.His tombstone was erected by contributions, from the variouscongregations he served. He was universally beloved and respected. He worked his farm during theweek and supported his family. On Sunday he fulfilled his duties aspastor. After a brief period in Jemseg he settled just below JamesSimonds on the river. Descendants of Elijah Jr. are eligible for membership in the D. A. R.(Daughters of the American Revolution) and S. A. R. (Sons of the AmericanRevolution). The following is taken from "Massachusetts Soldiers andSailors of the Rev. War" V. 5, Page 156: Easterbrooks, Elijah Jr.Private, Capt. Jabez West's Co., Col.
