Note:   [Grant001.FTW] SIKES FAMILY HISTORY Begun July 9, 1966 at 735 Voetter Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana --------------------- by Lucille (Sikes) Landers I was born Nov. 1, 1902 at Wayland, Stephens County, Texas - the twelfth child of thirteen born to Jack Johnson Sikes and Arabella (Vick) Sikes. The seventh of eight daughters, with five brothers, I grew up near Wayland (near Breckenridge) , Texas. Married Charles Urbane Landers Nov 2, 1921, in the home of G. G. Killian (a Baptist minister) near Wayland, Texas. (Marriage license recorded at Breckenridge (Stephens County) , Texas.) Urbane and I had five children: 1) Sybil Lucille (Landers) Berry; 2) Velma Pauline (Landers) (Roberts) Stanley; 3) Patsy Charline (Landers) Berry; 4) Charles Jack Landers; 5) Nannie Belle (Landers) (Dunn) (Kirby) (Pearson) (Jestila) Miller. Earth, Texas - Jan. 11, 1934 - Whooping Cough Cure - Sent to us by *Elder O. H. Reeves - This is really a good cough syrup, and not bad to take. 1 tablespoon flax seed, boiled in a pint of water, then strained. Slice 3 lemons in the water, and add 1 1/2 cups sugar. Cook down to a syrup. Strain for use. TAKE TEASPOONFULL SEVERAL TIMES A DAY AND AT BEDTIME. January 1935: Mama got ITCH around her stomach (pregnant with Charles Jack Landers) - Got some Blue Star Ointment from some Indians near Lawton, Oklahoma, which got rid of the ITCH. - Per Phone conversation 23 Jan 1994 - Pauline Stanley to Jack Landers. * Elder O. H. Reeves lived in Indiana when he sent this to us. Sybil & Pauline had the whooping cough at the time and it sure helped them. {Lucille (Sikes) Landers - Aug. 26, 1990} " I expect to pass this way but once. If, therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it - as I shall not pass this way again." Perm. " All things bright and beautiful, all things great and small, all things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all." - Cecil Frances Alexander Sept. 21st , 1990 - "Jack & Nona left home Sept. 21st to come to see us. They spent Sunday night at Nan's - and came to Coleman on Monday." " On the 26th of Sept., 1990, Jack, Nona and I went to Giddings, Lee Co. , Texas. We went to the court house, library, and to the Prospect Cemetery , 4 miles out of Lexington, Texas - where a lot of the Vicks' are buried.
