Note: , with his parents in 1916 when they moved west. He joined the Canadian Expediation Forces in World War 1, serving as a Sapper in an Engineering unit. His regimental number was 3352391. Source RG150, Acc. 1991-93/166, box 389-45. Returning from the war, he took a job as a carpenter, building grain elevators across Saskatchewan. He later took a job as an elevator operator, buying grain for the Northern Grain Elevator Company. The company closed the elevator during the depression due to the lack of grain. Walter bought a quarter section just south of his father-in-law John Walkeden and farmed there for a period of time. During the second World War, he attempted to re-enlist and was turned down from lung damage suffered during the First World War. In 1944, he suffered a major heart attack and had to give up farming. When he recovered, he moved his family to Regina where he took the position of Warehouse Manager for the Federated Co-op until he retired. Walter like his brother Bill and sisters had a good singing voice.
