a. Note:   y 1833 and arrived in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 5 October 1833. Her trial was held in Nottinghamshire, England in 1833. At the time of her trial Catherine was 18 years old. She received a 14 year sentence. Upon arrival in Australia, Catherine may have been sent to the Parramatta Female Factory... "Women convicts who were not immediately chosen by a settler as assigned servants were sent to the Female Factory at Parramatta. This was a prison and it was used also for women who committed further crimes in the colony and were reconvicted. They lived in a loft above the workroom. They spent their day spinning and weaving coarse cloth to clothe themselves and the convicts who were working on the roads or on other public works. Conditions were dirty and cramped, the roof leaked, the toilets stank and the bedding consisted of piles of raw wool, full of ticks and dags. They received food rations but nothing else." When Catherine married John LAWLER, one of the witnesses was Catherine's sister, Bridget BRYAN.
