Note:   She came to Oxford, MS. as a governess, at the age of 18. She never saw her family again, but they did keep in touch by mail. She came to the U.S. about 1869-1870. Her father put her on the ship after she lost her job in Sterling castle where she was a governess. Her father's last words to her: "Jeanie, have enough faith not to yield to temptation and not to let anyone run over her." Her marriage license spells her name "Janet". Marriage in Lafayette County, MS. Dec. 26, 1870. NOTE: From the College Hill Presbyterian Church of Oxford, MS. the following: March 26, 1870.................A letter of dismission from the CHURCH OF SCOTLAND was presented for Miss Jeannett SImpson. The papers being regular, on motion Miss J. SImpson was admitted as a regular member of this church in good and regular standing.
