Notes
a. Note:   John Stinson had two children with Rebecca Lyon. Apparently Rebecca died sometime before 1826. John then married Millie Rushing and thereafter moved to Tx where he filled out a land grant application in Sabine District. Tx was at this time part of Mexico. The application indicated that he headed a family of 5 persons. He was granted l league of land on the headwaters of Pine Island Bayou on 25 November 1935. A Mexican government census enumerates John, Milla, and three children, Artentas, Elizabeth, and Sarah Jane (3 months old) In November 1846, John Stinson was given a permit to operate a ferry on the Neches River at Matthews Bluff, Cherokee Co, Tx. He later sold this to William Bonner. The 1850 Tx census of Cherokee Co lists Jno. Stinson, age 53, a farmer; Wife Millie, born in N.C. age 45; Eliza, age 19, born in Tn; James, age 10, Al; John, age 8, Tx; Wm, age 7, Tx; Elvina Tx; Artenious, age 22, born in Alabama.,
