Note: Vada Walker A celebration of the life of Vada Mae Walker will be held Saturday, July 21. Mrs. Walker, a former resident of Elk Grove, died July 16, 2007 in Fresno at age 89. She lived in Elk Grove from 1961 to 1967 when her husband, Rev. Robert E. Walker was pastor of Point Pleasant United Methodist Church, and again after their retirement from 1982 to 1989 when her husband was associated with Elk Grove United Methodist Church. Mrs. Walker was born in Buchanan, Mich. on Feb. 23, 1918, and grew up in South Bend, Ind. She met her future husband at a Christian Endeavor group in South Bend and they were married Aug. 28, 1941. After he finished seminary, the family came to California where Rev. Walker’s first pastorate was that of chaplain for returning veterans of World War II who lived in Rodger Young Village in Griffith Park, Los Angeles. From there they served various churches throughout California including Point Pleasant. Rev. Walker preceded her in death March 6, 2000 after 58 years of marriage. Mrs. Walker is survived by her children Carol Allen and husband Bill of Elk Grove, Thomas Walker and wife Robin of Franklin, Ohio, Beverly Rye and husband Ron of Clovis, and Marleen Greene and husband Bob of Lemoore; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Viewing and visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Point Pleasant United Methodist Church, 3329 Point Pleasant Road off Franklin Boulevard, followed by the service at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Point Pleasant Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the church’s building fund, 3329 Point Pleasant Road, Elk Grove, CA 95758.
