Note: . Mrs. Mary Walker, better known as Aunt Polly, departed this life, Saturday morning April 2nd, 1892 at the home of Martha Addington, Greenfield Ind., after an illness of three weeks. The remains were taken Sunday after noon, followed by a large number of relatives and friends and was interned in Mt. Carmel church yard near her old home. The deceased was born in Wayne County, Ind., Nov. 10, 1814, being 77 yrs. 4mo. 22da., old at the time of her death. Her maiden name was Mary Roberts, and at the age of 20, Dec.10,1835 was united in marriage to John Walker, who with her in the spring of 1836 moved from Wayne Co., Ind. to Green Township, Hancock, Co. where they lived a short time and then removed to her old home on the banks of sugar creek, where she spent most of the remainder of her life. September 11, 1871 her husband was taken from her by death, leaving her with her Family partially raised. Two sons and five daughters were born to them, all but one son preceded her to the long resting place. She united herself with the M.E. church more than 36 years ago during Rev. Hambles' time on the circuit and from that time until death tried to live a devout Christian life. She was a good wife, a kind mother and grand mother, filling the place of mother for three of her grandchildren and also an obliging neighbor, being loved and respected by all who knew her. She leaves one son, William thirteen grand children and seven great grand children with many relatives and friends to mourn her loss. But our loss is her eternal gain, for she often said in the class-room that she was prepared for death and was only waiting for the summons to come for her to meet her savior. To the bereaved family and friends we would say she is at rest, her earthly work is ended, and she has gone to meet those of h er friends, who have gone before her. . This obituary written by E. J. Lumis of the Greenfield, Indiana newspaper April 4th or 5th, 1892. It was then copied directly from the writings of H. Ray Walker.
