Obituary Edward Walker Edward Walker, of the Walker & Williams Manufacturing company and a member of the Health Board of this city breathed his last at 1 o’clock this afternoon. He has been failing in health for about a year and for the last two months has been in a serious condition. An operation was performed Friday of last week as the only means of saving his life but he did not rally. He became unconscious Tuesday and remained in that state until the end. Mr. Walker was born near Deposit, Broome county in 1831 and during the greater part of his life he made his home in this city where he was universally respected. For a number of years he was second hand in the mule spinning room of the Ogden mill. Then in company with William Stevenson he purchased a knitting mill at Bennington but there was some dispute about the bargain. A long litigation ensued and Mr. Walker won the suit but he did not start the mill. Then he and Mr. Stevenson went into the knitting business at Jobville near Mechanicville. This they continued but a short time. After a brief venture in the manufacture of cotton bats at Troy, he purchased a grocery on Manor avenue. In company with his brother James W. he went into the bat business in a small building in the rear of the Tivoli mills. The structure was destroyed by fire and never rebuilt. In 1874 Mr. Walker formed a partnership with David Williams and they started up the manufacture of cotton bats in a mill at the head of Remsen street. They were very successful in this business and in February 1892 they purchased the Pilot mill on Van Rensselaer street which they now operate. The concern was Incorporated in February 1894 and Mr. Walker was elected president, a position that he held at the time of his death. Mr. Walker was an earnest supporter of the principles of the Republican party since its organization. He was elected an alderman of the Second ward in March, 1881 and served two terms. On May 7, he was appointed a member of the health board and was a member when he died. The deceased was genial and kindly and easily made friends. He was charitable and honorable in his dealings with all men. To his family he was always kind and considerate and loved the society of the home circle. He was three times married and is survived by his wife and the following sons and daughters: Addie, Tillie, Mrs. H. S. Allen, Hayes and Rosabel of Cohoes and Mrs. W. T. Heaton of Salem. Two brothers, James W. and Abram of Cohoes, also survive. The funeral will be held at 2:30 Monday from his late residence. The remains can be viewed at the house from 12 until 2 o’clock tomorrow. Burial will be in the Waterford Rural Cemetery.
