Note: Information not confirmed. It would appear that Richard was born in Wooler, although his parents may have come from Ireland with their daughter(1861 census). "WOOLER is a small parish, comprising an area of 4,852 acres. The Earl of Tankerville is the proprietor of Wooler, and lord of the manor, and the Messrs. Clarke, of Newcastle, are the owners of Fenton. The population of the parish in 1801, was l,679; in 1811, 1,704; in 1821, 1,830; in 1831, 1,926; in 1841, 1,874; and in 1851, 1,911 souls. THE TOWN of Wooler occupies a healthy position, on the eastern declivity of the Cheviots, forty-six miles N.N.W. of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and consists of several streets, diverging from a central area used as a market place. Wooler was one of the baronies into which this country was divided at the period of the Norman Conquest." [From History, Topography, and Directory of Northumberland, Whellan, 1855]. 1883-Qld.Richard married Eda Magdalina Christina Mossman in Queensland in 1883 and their first child was born in Queensland in 1883 (Maria Violet Lillian) as was Richard William in 1885. 1886-1888 It seems that they then moved south to the gold fields as Eda was born at Sawpit Gully Fairfield Drake NSW, a mining area.Eda Magdalina Christina parents and brothers and sisters were also in the area at that time. 1888-Arrived in Eidsvold c1888.(Violet 5yrs old enrolled at Eidsvold SS 1888). Living "over Boundary Creek". 1897 Could have been in Granite Creek (40km south of Miriam Vale) for Arthur John's birth. 1909-Second daughter Eda married in MT. Perry on 22 Mar 1909. 1910-Many Peaks. It is quite clear after reading the list of registered sawmills in the area that the families were connected in the area with timber and its' transportation. i.e. The Walkers, Fitzhenrys, Mossmans, and Downeys 1923 26 10.86 152 31.57 gps Greendale saw mill Walker Brothers Gympie, Stewart Errace Rasmussen & Walker 1941 1944 Builyan Walker, Frederick / Richard 1916 1972 24 31.8 151 23.0 Boyne Valley Sawmilling Co Walker, Fitzhenry, McLAchlan Dave & Albert Littlemore (just east road bridge Boyne R) Mossman, Harry & Jack 1915 1915 24 28 151 21 Many Peaks Downey & Sons 1913 1913 24 32.6 151 22.4 Many Peaks Hunting & Sons / Bros 1910 1926 24 32.6 151 22.4 Many Peaks Walker & Sons 1910 1910 24 32.6 151 22.4 Rita Vale, Boyne Valley Mossman, H. & J. 1912 1914 McLachlan, David & Albert Many Peaks on the upper Boyne was fortunate to attract the attention of the wealthy Mount Morgan Gold Mining Co. Dick Walker is also mentioned as the band master in the Centenary book for that period.
