Notes
a. Continued:   He was a big man. He was also a drunk and a womanizer who terrorized his wife and children. For reasons which I don't understand, he was bitterly opposed to having his daughter, Annie, marry Sam SEAHORN. When she eloped and did it anyway, he was furious. The SEAHORN family gave a reception for them when they came home from their wedding. Richard, reportedly drunk, took his seven year old son with him and went to get her. When she refused to go, he became very abusive. The SEAHORN family and guests went into the house and latched the door. Richard BERRYMAN proceeded to try to break it down. Hugh SEAHORN shot through the door and killed him. Seven year old Daniel dragged his father's body into the wagon and took him home. Nobody in the family will talk about this. I learned it from strangers and my grandparents made a gallant effort to deny it. They waited a while to place a stone on Andy BERRYMAN's grave, then had it engraved "1912". Mama SEAHORN finally talked to me about it after she was resigned to the fact that I knew. I only learned recently that most of my cousins did not know this.
