Notes
a. Continued:   She was about 5'7" tall. Her hair was coal black and it only had a few streaks of gray when she died. She was exceedingly vain about her appearance, her home and everything else in her life. She had weekly beauty parlor appointments until she died and she read "Glamor" and other such magazines to keep up with what was fashionable. She was such a fastidious housekeeper that it was not possible to be really comfortable in her house. Considering her generation, she was enormously interested in politics. She voted religiously, attended county commission meetings, etc. It was one of her few passions. When I was younger, I thought she was cold emotionally, but one of us changed. She was not at all that way after I grew up. She was, however, extremely intolerant of any public display of emotion. She was very upset with me because I started crying at Papa's funeral. She asked Betty to take me out to the car. I'm sure she cried a barrel of tears but nobody witnessed it.
