a. Note:   He graduated at Washington College, 1785; studied law with Thomas Jefferson; in 1791, he removed to Kentucky, and located at Bardstown; member of the Virginia Legislature from Kentucky; represented Nelson Co. in the Kentucky Senate from 1796 to 1800; member of the Constitutional Convention that met at Danville, in 1787; was one of the midnight Judges appointed by President Adams, March 3, 1800, but was legislated out of office by the abolition of the circuit of Kentucky, over which he presided; in 1800 he located in Mason Co., Ky., and was appointed Circuit Judge, which office he held at his death; son of John and Elizabeth (Alexander) McClung, and had issue.
