I [Marvin Weeks] am a descendant of Isaiah Wallace through his daughter Nancy, who married William Morrison Porter in 1848 in Winston County. Isaiah Wallace was born in the late 1790s in Greene County, TN, the son of William Wallace and wife Grace Harrison Wallace who had married there in 1791. The Wallace family moved to Lawrence County, AL, in the early 1820s; William Wallace died there in 1826 and Grace in 1833. Isaiah's name appears several times as "Josiah" in the settlement of Grace's estate, probably due to misreading by the court clerk. Isaiah Wallace was married in Lawrence County to Susannah Heard Standifer, the daughter of Skelton Standifer and his first wife Elizabeth Thornberry. Susannah was born in 1800 in Oglethorpe County, GA, and was named for her grandmother Susannah Heard, wife of Israel Standifer. The Standifers had moved to GA from Henry County, VA, and then moved from GA to Madison County, AL. By 1829 Isaiah and Susannah Wallace had moved from Lawrence County, AL, to Monroe County, MS. They moved to Oktibbeha County in the 1830s and on to Noxubee County by 1839. Isaiah Wallace died in northern Noxubee County in 1842 and is said to be buried in an unmarked grave in the cemetery at the original site of Prairie Grove Baptist Church. Susannah Wallace moved her family to Winston County to be near her sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and William Hudson. Susannah died in 1868 and is buried in the cemetery at Antioch Baptist Church in northern Winston County. I inherited Isaiah's leather bound journal which dates from the 1830s, and I have documents belonging to Susannah. Among Susannah's belongings is a cased tin type photo of her son James R. Wallace who died at Vicksburg in 1863.
