Note: http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/PersonMatch.aspx?tid=6886114&pid=964322591&src=m&pg=32772&pgpl=pid This researcher lists the following children for William Wallace and Grace Harrison. Nancy (?-1858) James (1791-1858) Elizabeth (1795-1858) Isaiah (1800-1850) Jeremiah (1804-1881) William Harrison (1816-1861) [Circumstantial evidence indicates he more likely was born in 1813. L.R.Tate] http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/10219021/person/-677275044 Researcher Robert Thompson provides some valuable information about Grace and names the following children, which have been rearranged in supposed birth order. James Wallace 1796 – 1858 Isaiah Wallace 1800 – 1850
Elizabeth Wallace 1800 – 1858
Jeremiah W Wallace 1804 – 1881 Nancy Wallace 1810 – 1840
William Harrison Wallace 1816 – 1861 [Circumstantial evidence indicates he more likely was born in 1813. L.R.Tate] Gracy Wallace (William's wife) and James Wallace (their oldest son) were appointed administrators for the estate of William Wallace, deceased, during the May term 1826 of the Lawrence County (AL) Orphans Court (note: Probate Court was formerly called Orphans Court). Bondsmen were John Wallace, William McGaughy, and Samuel Gregg. Five men were then appointed to appraise the personal estate of William Wallace, deceased: "David Dodd, Jeremiah W. Walker, George W. McGaughey, Charles Ewing and Cyrus McWhorter or any three of them..." The valuation was then performed, apparently about 26 Jul 1826: 6 horses $417.50 9 cattle, $95.50 6 hogs $10.00 Wagon and harness, $140.00 4 pair of chains [for pulling with horse team?] , $12.25 Farming tools $56.50 2 saddles and bridles $11.00 5 beds and furniture $129 1 table and cloth $4.25 Cupboard ware $20.00 1 pair saddle bags $1.00 Citchen (Kitchen) furniture $20.00 9 chairs $2.25 2 wheels (spinning wheels) and cards (carding brushes) $1.50 1 pair stilyards (devices for weighing) $2.00 3 books $1.00 3 truncks $5.00 1 grindstone $2.00 1 side harnes(??) $4.00 1 whetstone(??) $00.75 The subtotal is unclear, but appears to be $935.00 Notes held on others (individuals are not listed here) totaling $2346.28 Cash on hand when William Wallace deceased $193.00 Grand total $3474.28 [Note: It is somewhat surprising that he did not owe anyone at the time of his death, but rather held promissary notes on several others. This indicates that, despite having several children, he was a excellent business man.] The appraisal of his estate was included in the court record on 26 July 1826 with a note stating that the above was the total estate now in possession of the administrators except for 4 head of cattle that couldn't be found. The inventory and appraisement was then filed in Lawrence County Court during the August 1826 term. http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/10219021/person/-677275006/media/1?pgnum=1&pg=0&pgpl=pid%7cpgNum This legal record shows land purchases by Wallaces and others in Lawrence County AL in Section 23, Township 7 South Range 9 West, Huntsville Meridian, State of Alabama The first date with volume and page number is the original recorded information, while the second appears to be notes added by a researcher perhaps showing when the land was paid for. Note that the three 1830-1831 purchases are adjacent parcels comprising a total of a half-section (320 acres) of land. James and Jeremiah are the sons of Grace. James Wallace 19 Jan 1830 v1 p81, 13 Nov 1831 v1 p105, E 1/2 of SE 1/4, 80 acres Jere (Jeremiah) Wallace 19 Jan 1830 v1 p 14, 9 Dec 1830 v1p34, SW 1/4, 160 acres Grace Wallace 7 Mar 1830 v1 p 28, 10 Dec 1830 v1 p52, W 1/2 of SE 1/4 80 acres The same record shows that in Dec 1846 (day is unclear) James Wallace bought an additional 160 acres comprising the E 1/2 of the NE 1/4 and the W 1/2 of the NE 1/4 of the same section, v6 p 424. Grace Wallace appears to have died prior to 16 Sep 1833 based on a record in the Lawrence County AL deed book. http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/10219021/person/-677275006/fact/10303600958 16 Sep 1833, T7S-R9W-S23-S½SE¼, Grace deceased: A H Faris & Wm M Lewis, Witnesses; Signers: Elizabeth and Benjamin Harrison, Nancy & Jarret W Stevens, and James, Josiah, and Jeremiah Wallace. (The researcher notes that the listing shows Township 27 rather than 7 and attributes it to a typo). [This is not the same plot of land Grace acquired in 1830 and may represent her and her husband's earlier acquired homestead. Or it may be a typo in the researcher's transcription.] I found the following note regarding Grace's son Isaiah. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/MSWINSTON/2003-07/1058322416 Isaiah's name appears several times as "Josiah" in the settlement of Grace's estate, probably due to misreading by the court clerk. However, another researcher seems to indicate that the misspelling was in the will of James Wallace, Grace's son, however the transcription below does not contain the misspelling. I have not seen Grace's will and cannot find it in Lawrence County AL index of wills under the surnames Wallace and Wallis. http://www.lawrencecoarchives.com/database/wills.php#/?page=1&searchCol=surname&searchBy=wallace http://www.lawrencecoarchives.com/database/wills.php#/?page=1&searchCol=surname&searchBy=wallis The following indicates William H. Wallace was also a son of Grace. http://www.lawrencecoarchives.com/Footprints_in_Time_Vol_1_&_2.pdf Friday June 18, 1858 Died near Mt. Hope, Lawrence County, Alabama on Tuesday 8th inst., Mr. Jas. WALLACE, one of the first settlers in the county- aged about 74 years. Mr. WALLACE had no children himself, for he had never married.
