Note:   CARL STANDLEY WALLACE: Carl was born on October 2, 1902 in Johnstown, PA, the son of Charles Newton Wallace and Elizabeth May Foust. Carl lived most of his life before marriage at 1152 Hunt Street in the Roxbury area of J’town, moving out at some point shortly before he wed, but he stayed in the Roxbury area. After he married he and his wife moved into a rental duplex at 1168 Hunt Street, just down the street from his father and strep-mother where he remained for the rest of his life. Carl’s mother, Elizabeth died in 1916, when he was 14. In 1925 his father remarried to a Hulda Clarke. Carl did not care for his step mother and this is probably why he moved out. He was not close with his father after his marriage and there was little interaction between the two families despite their close proximity. After graduating from high school, Carl went to work for Bethlehem Steel Corp as a machinist and remained with that company until his retirement at age 65. In later years of his employment he worked in a supervisory capacity. He had no military service – too young for WW1 and too old for WWII. During the latter conflict he worked at a shell plant making casing for munitions. Carl was a great sports fan and in his younger days played baseball and basketball. For many years he was a member of the Johnstown Old Timers Assoc, a group of men who played league baseball in their younger days. He was also an avid bowler, playing on company teams. Carl died on August 5, 1981 of a blood clot after breaking his leg falling from a ladder while washing windows. He is buried in Grandview Cemetery Highland Section 3, Lot 67.
