Note:   Hannah WISTLER (My mother spelled the name Whistler and this spelling appears in other family trees) was born on 8 January 1823 in Coatesville, Chester, PA. Her parents are not known. She married Thomas Franklin Temple about 1845, based on the birth of Mary Melissa in 1846. She appeared in the census in August 1850 in East Caln, Chester, PA. Also enumerated with her is a Mary Wistler, who is apparently her sister. (Mary is listed as 16 years old, estimated birth year of 1834) Hannah appeared in the census in 1860 & 1870 in Jersey City, Hudson, NJ.Hannah appeared in the census in June 1880 in Conemaugh, Cambria, PA.She died on 9 November 1888 at the age of 65 in Cambria Co., PA. Her parents were both from PA. She was buried with her husband at Sandyvale Cemetery and later moved to Grandview Highland 4, Section 195 although no marker could be found.
Family legend says that the Rays are related to Abraham Lincoln. One source says that Hannah's mother may have been Nellie Hanks, sister to Abraham Lincoln's mother. Another tale is that Nancy Hanks' sister Nellie married a Wistler. These do not apprear to be born out based on geneological facts. However there is some evidence that the relationship is through Elizabeth Hollis who was born a Lincoln. Abe & Elizabeth may have shared a gggf in Mordecai Lincoln.
