a. Note:   Pearl was raised by a Mathis family from age 11, according to Dewitt's narrative history of James Coy Wallace.
  Pearl and Sherrod have three children in 1930 census. Dewitt lists only one, Geneva, who is 7 in this census, 8 years younger than her next older sibling. The age difference could indicate a second marriage for Sherrod and/or Pearl.
