a. Note:   According to other researchers (see files), Michael's parents were John and Rebecca Etter Cobble. Michael and his first wife, Elizabeth Smelcer, were living next door to John and Rebecca in the 1850 census. John is very likely Michael's father but I have no primary proof of their relationship. John's ancesters were (2) Michael Cobble, b. 1759 in Pennsylvania, and Magdalena, b. in Pennsylvania; and (1) Michael Cobble, b. abt 1730 in Germany, and Margaretha Elizabeth.
  Ralph Cansler in his report on the Jacob Harmon family says that Michael's parents were likely Michael Cobble and Catherine "Caty" Ely Cobble.
