 1. I don't think there is enough evidence to conclusively say that Jane was John Odell's first wife or that Martin, Martha, John C, Jane, Sarah and William are all of his children. John was 20 yrs old in 1820. Martin and Martha were not born until 1836. That is a gap of 16 yrs. If children were born every 2 yrs, that is 7 children unaccounted for. I have seen some notes and family trees stating that John was married to someone before Jane Conway, but I have not seen anyone produce any documentation for that statement yet. I would just say it is a possibilty. We need to research in Indiana probably for that answer.
  2. I have seen a lot of trees stating that John's full name is "John Boots Odell". However, no-one produces as documentation anything stronger that the IGI or Ancestral File or an Ancestry.com tree. That is VERY weak evidence if you can call it evidence at all. I frankly do not believe it. This is probably what happened. Martin Boots had a daughter who married an Odell (a cousin of our John Odell). The daughter Boots named one of her sons John Boots Odell. If that were true, John Boots Odell is a nephew of our John Odell. All of this is purely hypothetical to show you have easy it is to make a mistake. Until someone produces some documentation, it is all mythology.
  3. I would like to know what happened to John Odell after 1880. He was 81 yrs old and Nancy was 71 living in Burris Fork, Moniteau, Missouri near his son John Conway Odell. I cannot find a record of his death anywhere.
