Notes
a. Note:   Her maiden name may be Bayard. She was probably from Philedelphia. All I have is a married name and New York, State. Possibly Mary Elizabeth Bayard There were Bayards in Pennsylvania, and they bought the Triange in Genisee and Erie Counties in New York abt 1796. We are thinking she met John around Erie. There was a Colonel Stephen Bayard and his wife Elizabeth Mackay Bayard whom had a town named after her, Elizabeth Town founded by Stephen in 1787. The boat for the Clarks (of Lewis and Clark) was built in Elizabeth Town-our other relative on Nancy Dennis line News from David Jaimee, just thought I would let you know, this is the Bayard line that I am researching, and it looks like the likely one. http://records.ancestry.com/Robert_A_Bayard_records.ashx?pid=17631794 http://records.ancestry.com/Elizabeth_Bayard_records.ashx?pid=48574343 This family migrated from Philadelphia to Ontario so they were most certainly loyalist. As you know, the Bayard family was a very small family, one line really, two at the most. And they all became patriots because they didnt want to lose their wealth. But this part of the family didnt change so it is very unusual and they must have been committed loyalists, so this lends some hint that this is what might have influenced John Knight 1755 and John 1784 to be loyalist while the rest of their family were patriots. So this Bayard family and our Knight family are very similar in that they both broke from their larger family to become loyalist. So, these are interesting clues. This Bayard family also used then names Mary and Elizabeth a lot. I am gathering information on them and will let you know what I find out. Thanks David Knight (cousin to me) he hired alot of researchers also on this family line and our two John's. Silas must have stayed with his mother until he was old enough to marry Phoebe Short ,and then moved up to Canada to be with his father John and his new wife Elizabeth and they had started a new family. John's parents and family were there also we discovered...Silas's mom had remarried and lived in New York State and that is all we have on her.
