Note: It is not clear that the info below refers to Mary Bannon, daughter of Christopher and Margaret. However, the info may be useful sometime in the future. My best guess is that a researcher found Mary on Ancestry World Tree and linked to her. On the other hand, the other researcher may know something I don't. Cut and pasted from Ancestry World Tree: Patrick Bannon, Mary's brother, a bachelor settled on 80 acares 3-1/2 miles Northeast of Zellingen. The Homestead Act of 1862 allowed people to settle on land and after five years they would receive the title form the United States Government. The St. Paul and Pacific Railroad reached this town in June of 1869 and the town's name was changed to Waverly Mills. Today it is known as Waverly. On October 19, 1873 a homestead certificate, signed by President Ulysses S. Grant, gave Patrick Bannon ownership of this land. In 1874 his widowed sister, Mary Bannon McCarthy and her two children, Elizabeth, age 10, and Edward, age 8, came to live with Patrick. Later Mary moved to Minneapolis and married John McGann. Mary Bannon McCarthy McGann died in 1895 and was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Waverly. The following info relating to the Elizabeth, age 10, above, was cut and pasted from Ancestry World Tree because it may be useful for future research: Elizabeth was born in Keokuk, Iowa. After the death of her father, Michael McCarthy, Elizabeth, her mother, and brother moved to Waverly, Minnesota. They moved in with Mary's bachelor brother, Patrick Bannon in 1874. Edward and Elizabeth attended school in Montrose. Later Mary and Elizabeth moved to Minneapolis and Elizabeth was employed as an apprentice seamstress. Elizabeth married Thomas Galvin and they bought Patrick Bannon's farm in 1882. In 1883, when a section of railroad land grant was divided for sale, Thomas and Elizabeth purchased an additional 20 acres and in 1899 purchased a portion (45 acres) of the Dennis Galvin farm. In 1902 they moved the original Dennis Galvin house to the farm where it stood until it was demolished in 1991. Patrick Bannon lived with Thomas and Elizabeth for awhile and later retired to Minneapolis where he died. He is buried in St. Mary's cemetery in Waverly. His last will bequethed his property to his sisters in Ireland and Thomas and Elizabeth Galvin remitted the remaining farm payments to them in Ireland. At the age of 54, Thomas Galvin died of pneumonia on March 5, 1914 (the same day as his father died). Elizabeth sold the farm to Leonard Galvin in 1927 and retired to the town of Waverly, across the street from the church. On May 30, 1942, she was stricken with a heart attack while marching in the Memorial Day Parade in Waverly. She died that day at the age of 78. She is buried in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Waverly. ELIZABETH GALVIN (Obituary from Waverly Star June 4, 1942) Keep for reference. Not clear if this is Mary.
