Harriet emigrated to Wilkes-Barre with her parents and sister, Rosanna. Harriet is enumerated on the census of 1900 at 441 New Market St., Wilkes-Barre with her husband, Benjamin WILLIAMS and four children: James, age 16; Rosanna, age 12; Sadie, age 6 and Roda, age 4 and her father James PHILLIPS, age 66. Both Benjamin WILLIAMS and Jame PHILLIPS are employed as Coal Miners. James WILLIAMS is employed as a Mine Laborer. Harriet died on 18 Sep 1926 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sadie WILLIAMS wife of Prof. Alfred WILLIAMS in Scranton, PA. She is buried in Hollenback Cemetery, Wilkes- Barre, PA. (US Census of 1900, Scranton Times) Rosanna PHILLIPS (MORGAN), born 18 Feb 1863 at 25 Mount Pleasant Street, Aberdare, Glamorgan County, Wales (Birth Certificate #324 for the counties of Glamorgan and Breacon, UK Census of 1871). Rosanna immigrated from Wales with her parents and sister in about 1878. Rosanna died on 8 May 1886 following the birth of her daughter, Sarah on 28 April 1886. Sarah died on 5 July 1886. Rosanna was survived by a husband, Thomas Y. MORGAN, born Nov 1862 in Wales and a son James J. MORGAN, born 5 Nov. 1882 in Wilkes-Barre. James died on 20 Aug 1910. NATURALIZATION: Luzerne County Courthouse has no record of a Declaration of Intent which should have been filed five years prior to the submission of the Petition for citizenship. Nevertheless, the Peitition for citizenship was filed with the Court of Common Pleas of Luzerne County on 4 Sept 1884. The Petition claims John D. PHILLIPS, a native ot Wales, "...arrived in the United States...at the Port of New York on the 4 day of June A.D. 1877 and that he (John) was under the age of eighteen years when he arrived in this country, and that for three years last past it has been a bona fide his intention to become a Citizen...; and that he has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States for five years last past, and for one year last past with the State of Pennsylvania..." The latter statement is the only one that is demonstrably true. The claims sworn to were attested to as was other- wise the behavior and "good moral character" by one John LLEWELLYN. The Petition is signed by John D. PHILLIPS on 4 Sept 1884 in the Court of Common Pleas and John was sworn in as a citizen of the United States (Citizenship Certificate from the collection of Helene Evans OLIVER and the Petition for citizenship of John D. PHILLIPS from the collection of Wayne E. PHILLIPS). DIED: 6 March 1925 in Nanticoke of Natural causes. According to the Death Certificate John D. Phillips was last employed as a Lampman for the Coal Company. The signature of the family informant on the Death Certificate is that of John J. Hibbard, son-in-law. John D. Philllips's middle name is unknown.
