Note: m here, on the page with the man that brought us a good, solid foundation to build our families on. . Maybe from these bits of information, we can build our family history with fewer brick walls. The following is an excerpt "The Handy Book for Genealogists" 2nd edition and I received it from the YOUNG-L@rootsweb.com. The eastern section(KY) was explored by Dr. Thomas Walker as early as 1750. Twenty-five years later the Transylvania Company was organized under the leadership of COL. RICHARD HENDERSON OF NC. From Indian tribes he purchased almost half of what is now the state of KY, all of the land between the KY River, in the central part of the state, and the Cumberland River, in the extreme western part. A multiplicity of law suits and the Rev. War completed the activities of the Henderson enterprise in a dismal failure. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Most of the info in my notes was gleaned from the notes of Bryce Stevens, Betty Rhodes. Jan Stevens, Roberta Hawks, Jessie Wheeler, David Arasmith and others. These family members are very good researchers and I want to take this time to honor their abilities and generousity. Thank you so much. I worked for years on this family, from Edward forward but did not have a computer and very little funds, then I got my first computer and the world was alive with Henderson family, all willing to share. There are many others that I will thank as their info comes into play. Notes will be long but worth the reading. A lot of e-mail correspondence will be included as a way of sharing with you how I got my info and the thoughts of each one in putting this together. I am Wanda Marie Young-Roberts, wife of Donald Lee Roberts, the son of Malcolm Charles Roberts and Katherine "Marie" Doyle, the son of Lester Henderson Roberts and Alma Hillig, the son of Charles Lester Roberts and America Henderson, the daughter of William Charles Henderson and Jane Stuart(Stewart(d)) the son of Edward Henderson and Mary S. Richards, the son of Charles Henderson. This covers to date 256 years. If all the info contained in these report are accurate, that would mean the Hendersons have been in America for 226 years. One thing I will always regret, I was not a better ref. keeper. When I started sometime in the 1970's I did not think anyone would want to know where I gleaned my info and I was so excited to find anything at all, that I would copy, by hand, everything I found. Fifteen years ago or so I would spent most of my free time driving to different places to spend an hour or two looking for information. As time went by, I learned that most of the info was right here in Ripley Co. and so I would look at everything I could find and never once write down the important, who, where, what, when or why.. When I finally got my first computer and discovered all the Hendersons out there and the wonderful work they had done and are still doing, I realized that my work was nothing without each one of them. So to each of you, whether your name is in here or not, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for contributing and God bless you all. Wanda Marie Young-Roberts1/25/2003 Charles came to America in about 1776. If dates are even near to correct and I think they are very close, it would mean that Charles came to America shortly after Edward's birth. E-MAIL NOTES* These notes will be dated but will not be in any order and I thank each one for answering my sometimes silly (Duh) questions. Fri. 24 Mar. 2000 Regarding your search for the Hendersons on Irish Immigrant lists, have you checked the County Down/Belfast area or the Dublin area yet? When I thought the Stevenses might be of Irish descent, (still a possibility but Welsh, English or Scottish equally possible) I found many references to Hendersons in County Down which is just south of Belfast in Northern Ireland. Aso in Dublin in the Republic of Ireland. Also am sending you a paragraph from the Clinton F. Henderson Family History dealing with our mutual ancestor William C. Henderson. "Uncle William was a farmer and Methodist preacher. Also a successful Veterinarian. His eldest son--John served in the Union Army, was captured and confined in Andersonville Prison where he died. Other children were Elijah, William, Richard, Sheridan, Matilda, Harriett, Jane, America and Malvina. All gone but Elijah, Richard and America. And possibly Jane who was still living in 1928. These children were all good citizens and all raised good respectable families some of which have been school teachers, some mechanics and some the traditional farmers of the family." What I have a problem with is Pierce Bailey's birth and marriage. Reason: In Clinton F. Henderson notes he says that Pierce was the baby brother of Edward. If Edward's birth year is near correct, that would mean that Pierce Bailey was born in the USA and he could not be married to Milly Duncan. Seems strange but not impossible that Edward was 33 years old when he married Mary S Richards. Mary S. would have been only 16. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Find in the Fairfax Court House, VA Sorry, did not mark down which record.
