a. Note:   According to a deed from his father to him, he is listed as a cordwaine r, which is a person who works with leather and can include a shoemaker , a harness/saddle maker or other leather worker. Another deed calls h im a shoemaker. He was definitely literate. In fact, according to his g randson, John W. Patrick, he was very deaf in old age and could only be c ommunicated with in writing or by signs. His grandson, John W., says he w as a short, thick set man. He sold his lands in Voluntown after the Rev olution. He and his wife moved to Stillwater where they lived with the ir son, William, until their deaths. He apparently outlived his wife.
