a. Note:   Member of CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp) in Arizona. Tried to join Coast Guard but not taking anyone. Wrote congressman. Finally accepted and scheduled to report the day his Father died. Never went and reported AWOL. Hew was his mother's, Anna's, favorite child. Did leatherwork after the service. Worked for Donald Mudge who made expensive finished leather. Dad put on the finish. Returned to Salem when Richard was 2 weeks old (April 25, 1946) Johnny tried to get him to study to be a fireman but Lorraine wouldn't let him. Said He's not going to be a fireman. Lived with Johnny for a while and then moved to a house across the street from the House of Seven Gables. Stayed until December 1946 (snowtime). Mom hated snow so they returned to San Diego. Cut hand on a thick bottle as a child. Was a real lady's man. Almost married Felicia before mom but went into service and she didn't wait. Stationed in Pearl Harbor at time of Japanese bombing. Ship USS Medusa had to move from dock so USS Arizona could dock. USS Arizona was sunk in the bombing. Worked for San Diego paper box as foreman, machinery buyer, and purchaser until retirement. Lived at 3858 Acacia Street, San Diego, 3640 Barcelona Street Spring Valley (Casa De Oro) and on Marlesta in San Diego. Moved to Port Neches near Barbara when Lorraine died. Very active with Senoir Citizens center. Very popular with the ladies. Believed to have died of a heart attack.
