She was able to find a lady who employed her for the required time to quality for Social Security benefits. Although a companion, her duties were essentially nonexistent, dusting, light housekeeping, and this position and its pay was given out of kindness by the lady. She was a bit testy and temperamental until she had a stroke in her old age, then became quite mellow. She alternately lived with dau Martha Fick and son Bob Norment when she could no longer run the boarding house. She enjoyed doing that and had endless stories to tell about the characters who boarded with her. Fran Holden was a young girl who boarded with her, something like a foster child
