 As recorded in the Confederate Pension Application of Martha Minshew, dated August 27, 1906, Nathan J. Minshew died on December 29, 1888. Martha says she had been living in Smith Co. for 7 years, and during the prior 2 years had been living in the town of Lindale in Smith County.
  The War Department Record states, "It is shown by the records that Nathan J. Minshew, private, Company B, 25th Alabama Infantry, C.S.A., enlisted August 23, 1862. He is reported on a company muster roll for September and October, 1863, only roll on file, as absent, "Detailed for hospital duty at Atlanta, Georgia, by special order 100 of Gen. Bragg, April 11, 1863." No later record of him has been found."
