Note: Cause of Death:<CAUS> cerebral hemorrhage of 6-8 hours DEATH: Minnesota Death Certificate ID# 1969-MN-008886. Albert died at 12:45 PM at the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Fort Snelling, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The immediate cause of death was due to a cerebral hemorrage of 6-8 hours, due to hypertension of over three years. Other significant conditions included atheroscerotic hypertensive heart disease; generalized atherosclerosis with stenosis of left renal artery and gastric ulcer. An autopsy was performed. From "The Clarissa Independent" newspaper: "ALBERT KOTVAL DIES AT VETERANS HOSPITAL. Albert Kotval, 65, died at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis on Saturday, April 12, following a lingering illness. Military funeral services were held Tuesday, April 15, at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Leo Hagmann officiating. Interment was at Woodman Cemetery. A complete obituary will be printed next week." BIOGRAPHY: Albert attended the Deer Park School, District #, in Iona Township, Todd County, Minnesota through the eighth grade. Albert was a skilled, self-employed carpenter and cabinet-maker. 1930, February 6 - From "The Clarissa Independent" newspaper, page 1: "SOLD VILLAGE PROPERTY TO HIS BROTHER. Joseph Kotval this week sold his cottage on East Leslie street to his brother Albert for $1,600.00, the deal being already closed. Mr. Kotval has gone back to farming and thus had no use for the place. His brother bought the property as an investment." SSN: 475-10-4935. OBITUARY: From "The Clarissa Independent" newspaper: "ALBERT KOTVAL, 65, SUCCUMBS APRIL 12 AT VETS HOSPITAL. Albert Kotval, a resident of this community all of his life, died about 1 p. m. on Saturday, April 12, at the Veterans Hospital at Minneapolis. Death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage after several years of ill health. "Mr. Kotval was born in Iona Township on January 6, 1904 to Frank and Mary Kotval, and at the time of death was 65 years, 3 months and 6 days of age. He grew to manhood in this community and attended Deer Park School. "On January 25, 1945 he was married to Miss Betty Ann Warner at Long Prairie. "He is survived by his wife and five children, Lawrence Albert of Minneapolis, Curtis of Northfield, Pamela Ann, 18, Allan Frederick, 14, and Byron Wayne, 8. Also surviving are two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Louise Janzen of Elk River, [Mrs.] Homer (Rose) Hayes of Browerville, Stanley of San Diego, California, and Edward of CLarissa. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph on March 3, 1969. "Mr. Kotval spent all his life in this community and was a long-standing member of the Western Bohemian Fraternal Association, and an active member of the local American Legion Post 213 while health permitted. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the armed forces from July 1942 until January 1943. "A military funeral was held [at 2:00 p.m.] on Tuesday, April 15 from the United Methodist Church here, with color guard and firing squad. Rev. Leo Hagmann conducted the services. Mrs. Kenneth Helgeson was organist and Mrs. Wm. Benson soloist. Interment was made in the Woodmen Cemetery. "Pallbearers were Verne Kotval, Glen Kotval, Leo Hayes and Richard Hayes, all nephews, and Melvin Sebek and Eldon Hybl." BURIAL: Lot 195, Woodman Cemetery, located northeast of Clarissa, Minnesota.
