From the 26th to the 2nd March it was a very boisterous sea. The night of the 29th was as dark as Rubly Corce. On the 1st was hail and lightening. The sails was cloce reefed nearly all ?? during these 5 days. The Captain said if it had been 12 more that we would have been drifted on the French Coast as we were about 120 miles from it. The 1st pleasant days that we had was 12 and 13th March and the porpoises did sport in great numbers - up to this date the Capt. said the ship was just 4 hours on her cource from we left Germoil for the wind was right ahead all the time. The wind changed on the 15th so that we had nearly square yards for 5 days. 15th at 8 O'clock in the morning we were 1/2 way and 30 miles more. On the 20th we were sailing opposite to th Banks of Newfouldland. On the 12th March was a sharke seen and one on the 19th. The night of the 20th was very corce. There was very heavy rain accompanied with thunder and lightening. We were crossing the Gulf Stream on the 24th and the water was very warm. The Mercury rose as high in the Thermometer as 65 degrees. The night of the 24th was the corcest that we had. The wind blew very strong that night and the next day from the East and continued to be fair wind for some days.   This travelogue was written by Eliza Warnock of Kircubbin, Ireland during her voyage to America with her father and mother, William Sr.and Jane Warnock, brothers William, Jr., James, Hugh, and sister, Jane. Wm. Sr., Eliza and Jane settled in Burlington, NJ where Eliza was a dressmaker and Jane was a milliner. Wm. Jr. became a florist in Camden, NJ, Hugh and James settled in PA originally. Hugh died in Civil War near Vicksburg. James survived and settled in Annawan, Bureau Co., IL. His daughter Jennie Elizabeth Warnock was my [Susan Bannick-Mohrland] maternal great-grandmother ( although she died when my grandmother was 16 years old and I never knew her)
It appears Eliza and Jane never married. Eliza was the guardian of William the orphaned son of Hugh Warnock. Jane was the guardian of the orphaned children of William Jr. who included Willliam III (Willie) and at least one other child.
